About Sabbaticals

One of the nice things about working for an "enlightened" (sure, why not) high tech employer is the 8 week paid sabbatical that they allow me every 7 years. This is an attempt to document what I did with my time off.

My first two sabbaticals are not well documented, so I thought that for this third time out I'd try to do a better effort of keeping track of what I did. I'll try to do a picture every day, perhaps even with a pithy caption. Of course, one of the first things I'd better do is to automate this as much as possible... that means I'll be programming on my sabbatical. Can you say " busman's holiday "? That's okay, because what I do at my job is what I'd be doing anyway - I kinda like programming.

After receiving a little inspiration from another co-worker, I penned a few words to celebrate the impending vacation time:

Sabbatical's here
It's time to cheer
And raise a glass of beer

Enjoying the sun
With some bbq fun
The leaving time is near

The "honey-do" jar
Is filled way too far
Where is my carpentry gear?

The beach is one place,
Tho' not quiet space,
To which I'm planning to steer

Texas is where
I'll be hauling some chairs
My son's an apartment-eer

I'll be back way too soon
(wasn't it just June?)
To start on my next 7 years.
